HERE I STAND

----- Music by Iona ----- Choreography © 2009 by Andy Raine -----

Solo or staggered group, facing same direction

(1) Here I Stand - Stand, relaxed but alert, arms stiffly by side 360° turn to right so still standing. (Turn as soon as possible).

(2) looking out to sea - Left arm raises to horizontal, palm-down. Regard ahead.

(3) where a thousand souls have prayed - Hands vertical, palm in, shoulder height, draw hands in to cross right arm ahead, both in fists, separate to release on 'thou-', draw in again with left ahead and release fingers from fists again on 'souls', draw in again with right ahead, release on 'prayed'. This is raising each time until 'prayed' is high above head, regard also raising.

(4) and a thousand lives were laid on the sand - Drop right hand, left hand palm up lowers, then kneel both hands wide, palm up to the ground, down on right knee, left leg behind, stretched. Hands palm-in on ground right side of head on ground.

(5) were laid on the sand - Hands turn palm-down, head turns so brow down, both legs stretched (when fully stretched hands may push further forward as well).

(6) Years have passed - on 'years' draw right knee in again, turn head as in (4), turn hands to palm-in, draw in a little so elbow partly bend. This is all on 'years'. Then sit up and draw left arm in arc over left to right, palm facing right. Face ahead (ie do not watch hand).

(7) since they have died - Stand, as left hand, palm-down passes left to right, then on 'died' left hand does arrow diagonally as if skimming water. Regard follows on the arrow.

(8) and the world shall last - As left hand fades, right fist to heart, then arms open head-height in circular move, palm-in, face raised.

(9) and the wild goose shall fly - Forearms crossed unevenly by right shoulder. They rotate one at a time (eg moving right arm, left and right) then release, palm out. Left arm drops.

(10) the wild goose shall fly - Right arm, palm-up follows flight of wild goose away far away then waves hand (from elbow, palm ahead).

(11) Here I Stand - As (1). Takes longer to get into starting position so spin will be a little later.

(12) looking out to sea - As (2).

(13) And I say a prayer - Clasp left fist upright on 'say', move it forward again on 'sa-ay' then release vertical facing right on 'prayer'.

(14) that the wild goose will come to me - As (9) - (10) in reverse order, end looking up.

(15) that the wild goose will come to me - Release arms palm-out above head, kneel, looking up, rotate arms as if bird coming on to heart. On outplay kneel low to right over bent right knee, right arm palm-up on ground. Left palm-down crossed over it. Finish by straightening (as instrument meolody suddenly rises) a little, left arm raising, palm-down as in (2).
